How To Add A Blog Page In Wix
3 Easy Ways to Move Wix Blog Post To A Separate Page
Out of hundreds of Wix blog posts on your site, there is one particular blog post that you want to highlight. You want that blog post to stand alone on one different page separated from other blog posts. You also want the one-click access to that page. So that your visitors don't spend any time searching for it.
The solution for the requirement above is to add a page in the site menu. That new page has the most visibility. And that page only displays your special blog post. There are three approaches to set this up:
- Use custom feed and feature post
- Use link to blog post
- Copy blog post content to the new page
All three approaches are quite simple. The instruction for each is below. Pick your favorite and apply it to your Wix site.
1. Use Custom Feed and Featured Post
If you are building your very first blog on Wix, you may wonder what is custom feed. In simple language, the custom feed displays a list of blog posts on one web page. However, it only shows a little content of each blog post. You must click on each blog post to see the entire blog post content.
In Wix, the custom feed can filter out posts by categories and featured post. That means, you can tell the custom feed to display blog posts in one particular category only. If that category has a featured post, you can tell the custom feed to display that featured post only.
So the game plan is to create new page on the site menu. Once your visitors click on the menu and enter the page, the custom feed on that page displays your unique post. Don't forget to make your post a featured post of a unique category.
The first step is to create a new page.
Create a new page
- 1. Click Menus & Page icon
- 2. Select "Site Menu"
- 3. Click + Add Page button
- 4. Rename the new page
The second step is to create a unique category for the new page above. This category will help the custom feed filter out the blog post.
Create new blog post category
- 1. Click Settings menu
- 2. Click "My Dashboard"
- 3. Click "Blog" menu
- 3. Click "Categories" under Manage
- 4. Click "New Category"
- 5. Use the name of the new page for Category Label
- 6. Click Save
The third step is to assign the unique category to the post and make the post a featured post.
Assign categories to the blog post
- 1. Edit the blog post
- 2. Click Categories icon
- 3. Select the category for the new page
- 4. Click Settings icon
- 5. Switch on "Set as featured post"
- 6. Click Publish
Now you jump back the editor and open the new page in the site menu. In this last step, you add the custom feed element and configure it to display your post only by setting the display category and the feature post.
Set up Custom Feed to display a single blog post
- 1. Click Add icon
- 2. Select Blog
- 3. Select Custom Feed
- 4. Click "One Column" Custom Feed
- 5. Click "Settings" button
- 6. Select "Display"
- 7. Select the new page category for "Choose a category for your feed"
- 8. Switch on "Show featured post only"
What I don't like about this approach is that your visitors still don't see the whole content of the blog post on your new page. They must perform one extra click to see the whole blog post content. Nevertheless, it takes you much closer to your goal.
2. Use Link to Blog Post
This approach is my personal favorite. It is not a perfect solution. But it is very simple and gets the job done.
First task is to get the URL of your unique blog post. Then you add a link item to your site menu instead of a page. And add the blog post URL to the link item. Then you are done.
Even though the link takes your visitors to the blog post, your visitors still feel like there is a different page on the site menu to display your unique blog post only.
The first step is to copy your blog post URL.
Copy the blog post URL
- 1. Public your website
- 2. Navigate to the blog post
- 3. Copy the blog post URL
The second step is to add your blog post link to the site menu.
Add a link to the menu
- 1. Click Menus & Page icon
- 2. Select "Site Menu"
- 3. Click "Add a Link" icon
- 4. Select "Web Adress" option
- 5. Paste the blog post URL to "What's the web address (URL)?
- 6. Select "Current window" option
- 7. Click Done
You see. The second approach is quite simple. In the future, when you have a new blog post, and you want your site menu link to display the new blog post instead, just remember to update the URL.
3. Copy Blog Post Content to A Separate Page
I have been working in IT long enough to be aware that things don't work sometimes. If the above methods don't work, and your deadline is so close, then you can use this quick and dirty solution.
Simply create a new page in the site menu. And copy and paste the blog post content to the new page. The task is quite tedious. But you get the job done.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there are three methods to move a blog post to another page on WIx. The first method is to use the custom feed, the blog category, and the featured post. The second method is to add a blog post link to your site menu. The second method is the easiest even though it isn't as flexible as the first one. In the worst case scenario when the two methods don't work for you, you can use the quick and dirty method which is to manually copy and paste the blog post content to the page.
